This tour is a two-hour, moderate level hike where you can enjoy the banks of the Yukon River, learning along the way!

Aimed towards the avid nature enthusiasts and hikers, you can enjoy the interpretation chat about the Klondike Gold Rush, First Nations history, geology, local plants and animals as well as practice outdoor scenic photo opportunities. We will pick you up and drive about 15 minutes south of Whitehorse to the trailhead. Rain or shine, we will go! The terrain varies with slight elevations from canyon side hills to steeper sections with great viewpoints of the valley, then into sub-alpine forest with exposed roots on a worn dirt trail heading south to the historic place name of Canyon City.

What do I need to bring? 
Dress for the weather, small daypack with water, camera, sturdy footwear (uneven gravel & dirt in places, AND stairs with approximately 25 steps with hand rails to assist you).

Why is this only available May – Oct?
The access road to Miles Canyon closes for the winter.

What facilities are available?
There are outhouses only at the trailhead.

What is the trail like?
The trail follows the colorful Yukon River. The ground has rocks and roots throughout with sand/gravel/dirt the whole trail. There is elevation hills both up and down along the edge of the riverbank at various height levels. 

Will we encounter or see wildlife?
The hike is in the Whitehorse area which is known as a “Wilderness City”. We do have occasional bear sightings and do take necessary bear precautions before and during the tour. Very likely to spot birds, squirrels and beavers along the way. 

What is Canyon City? 
This is a historic site both with our Indigenous people and later the Gold Rush. There are few remains, however many stories and memories to share. 

How far is the hike?
There and back is roughly 7 kms (4.5mi)
